Why Every Major Sport Bet on Las Vegas
Sports on Your Doorstep From the Paseos
Las Vegas combined major sports venues, an established tourism and hospitality industry, and local support to attract teams and major events.
Living near major sports changes the shape of an ordinary week. From our home in The Paseos, the drive to T-Mobile Arena and Allegiant Stadium varies with traffic and event timing. A Golden Knights game, Raiders game, concert, or major event can be part of a Tuesday or Saturday night without booking a flight, reserving a hotel, or planning months ahead.
That is one reason Las Vegas feels different now. We can spend time at Red Rock Canyon, meet friends at Downtown Summerlin, walk a neighborhood trail, and still make it to puck drop or kickoff that evening. The sports world did not simply arrive because Las Vegas is famous with visitors. The city built the venues, hospitality systems, and event experience that made it hard for major leagues to ignore.
We made the move from Washington to Summerlin ourselves, and our home is in The Paseos. We know that choosing a home means thinking about everyday routines as well as the events you want to enjoy. At Lakhani Team Real Estate, we help you compare locations around your own priorities. Explore our Summerlin and Henderson area guides to start comparing.
Vegas Made the Case Before Leagues Arrived
For years, major professional leagues approached Las Vegas carefully because of the city’s long connection to sports betting. According to the U.S. Supreme Court’s May 2018 decision in Murphy v. NCAA, the ruling opened the door for states to legalize sports wagering, changing the national conversation around sports and betting.
Still, legal changes were only part of the story. Las Vegas had already begun showing that it could host professional sports at a high level. According to T-Mobile Arena, the venue opened in 2016, and NHL records show the Vegas Golden Knights began play the following year. A packed arena and immediate local support gave leagues a very public example of what demand could look like here.
The business case was already strong, too:
- Hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues are built to handle major crowds.
- Harry Reid International Airport gives visiting fans and teams direct access to the city.
- Convention and event workers understand tight schedules, large groups, and high-profile weekends.
- Nevada does not have a state individual income tax, which is often part of the broader conversation for athletes and organizations.
For anyone moving to Las Vegas, that event-ready foundation is not just background information. It shapes how often big games, concerts, and visiting friends become part of everyday plans.
The Teams That Changed the Weekly Calendar
The Golden Knights were the turning point. Hockey at T-Mobile Arena brought regular game-night energy to the Strip, with dining, hotels, and entertainment all close by. It feels distinctly Las Vegas, where the event can stretch well beyond the final horn. The Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in 2023, in only their sixth season.
Allegiant Stadium made an even bigger statement on the south end of the Strip. Since the Raiders arrived, the stadium has become part of the skyline and a year-round venue for NFL games, concerts, and national events. According to the Nevada Legislature, Senate Bill 1, passed in 2016, authorized up to $750 million in public financing for the stadium project, a signal that the state was serious about competing for major sports.
The Las Vegas Aces have won three WNBA championships in four seasons (2022, 2023 and 2025). Their games at Michelob ULTRA Arena give the city another venue-centered night on the calendar.
Baseball is on its way. The Athletics are playing in West Sacramento through the 2027 season while their new ballpark rises on the Strip, with the team targeting a 2028 opening. Projects of this scale can change, so we always recommend confirming the latest Athletics updates. Las Vegas Aviators play at Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin.
Big Events Turn the Strip Into a Global Stage
Formula 1 changed how many people see the Strip in November. The Las Vegas Grand Prix brings track construction, viewing areas, hospitality events, road closures, and international attention into the middle of the city. For residents, it also means checking official Formula 1 and Clark County updates before heading toward the Strip during race week.
UFC is another part of the Las Vegas sports calendar, with events at T-Mobile Arena.
Super Bowl LVIII showed what Las Vegas can do when the entire sports world arrives at once. Allegiant Stadium hosted the game while hotels, restaurants, the airport, and entertainment venues took on a huge wave of guests. Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reporting has long documented the city’s enormous visitor volume, and that built-in travel base gives major events a different kind of reach here.
Some event weekends require extra patience and planning. In return, they create a calendar full of things to do when friends come to town.
- Game days often include watch parties, concerts, and dinners beyond the stadium.
- Visiting friends may plan a whole Las Vegas weekend around one ticket.
- Major events can affect driving routes, parking, and reservations.
- A quick look at Google Maps during a typical event time can be more useful than a daytime drive.
Moving to Las Vegas with Game Days in Mind
When we help clients who are moving to Las Vegas, we encourage them to think beyond the home itself. Venue access can affect how often you actually go to games, meet friends for dinner near an arena, or say yes to a last-minute concert.
Location is personal. Some buyers want quicker access to the Strip or Allegiant Stadium. Others prefer being closer to Downtown Summerlin, Red Rock Canyon, or Henderson while keeping major venues within reach. Summerlin and Summerlin South offer west-side routes toward T-Mobile Arena, while Henderson, Green Valley, Cadence, and Inspirada create different paths to Allegiant Stadium, the Strip, and Harry Reid International Airport.
Practical questions help bring the choice into focus:
- What does the drive look like on a Sunday afternoon or weekday evening?
- Where might guests stay when they come in for a game?
- How often do you expect to attend sports, concerts, or special events?
- Would you rather be near the action or have more distance from major venues?
Because we have relocated ourselves and own homes in Nevada and Washington, we understand that a move is made up of many small decisions. We answer our phones, map out options, and help you compare the details in a clear, calm, and well-supported way.
Make Las Vegas Your Home Base for the Action
Las Vegas now gives residents something that once seemed unlikely, major sports on a regular calendar and global events throughout the year. Last-minute tickets can become a real option. Friends suddenly have a very good reason to plan a visit. A game night can start with dinner at Downtown Summerlin and end under the lights at an arena or stadium.
The best approach is to consider the life you want between events, too. You can spend a morning near Red Rock Canyon, take care of errands close to home, and still make it to a game that evening. In Las Vegas, the action is close, but your home base can still reflect the pace and daily routines that matter most to you.
